Knowing and analyzing the supra-municipality in a complete way and in all its aspects is the purpose of this work, called to be a reference in the matter. 
The supramunicipal reality goes beyond the administrative limits and territorial structures in which they have traditionally and timidly been framed.
This work shows from a historical, comparative and multidisciplinary perspective different formulas and bets that overcome these barriers and aim to innovate and, above all, adapt to reality.
This is, as indicated, a unique work that addresses for the first time the phenomenon of supra-municipality in a complete and holistic manner but, in addition, providing proposals for improvement and offering innovative formulas, in coherence with what the urban and territorial dynamics themselves they demand.
It is necessary to face the challenges of the supramunicipal phenomenon, also taking references in some of the main sectoral areas in which it takes place, propose and promote the development and application of supramunicipal systems and networks that improve public services and the functioning of cities in close connection. relationship with their rural environments.
It is therefore in this framework that this work is presented to promote, promote and disseminate networks and models of supramunicipal organization and regulation in order to improve urban planning and public services.
