Author/s: Ana Carcedo
Country: España

This work is framed by the debate on some general aspects of migration and its connection with human rights, along with conceptual clarifications on the gender perspective. Updated data is included on migratory movements worldwide and specific to the Latin American and Caribbean region, as well as displacement due to conflicts and disasters. Current information on women in migratory movements and their trends is presented, and central aspects of these movements in the Latin American and Caribbean region are analyzed. It concludes with the opportunities for intervention from local governments to act from a perspective of migrant women in a triple sense, humanitarian attention, inclusive local development, and social cohesion.
