Author/s: Daniel Cravacuore
Country: Argentina

This article presents the main changes that have occurred in the Argentine municipal system from the beginning of the Democratic Transition to the present. The emergence of the Argentine municipality as a level of autonomous government and as a field for the development of innovative policies and new leaderships is one of the main features of the Argentine political system in the last forty years. We will review the institutional, political, economic, financial and administrative changes that characterize this atypical decentralization process.
