Ciudadanía Intercultural: Aportes desde la participación política de los pueblos indígenas de Latinoamérica

Latin America has gone through an unprecedented mobilization of indigenous peoples in the past 20 years, but their political participation , particularly of indigenous women is still very low , says the study Intercultural Citizenship Contributions from political participation of indigenous peoples in Latin America.
The report analyzes the six countries of the region with the highest percentage of people of indigenous origin and showed greater progress in their political participation : Bolivia , Ecuador , Guatemala , Mexico , Nicaragua and Peru .
According to the analysis , the factors that have helped to increase political participation and influence of indigenous peoples are : i ) the increase of indigenous movements , also favored by new communication technologies such as mobile telephony , Internet and networks social , ii ) expansion of their rights after the signing and recognition of international conventions and iii ) increasing public agencies and driving charges indigenous issues.
