Since flamenco was inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, public institutions, regional and local governments have decided to run for competences in this matter. However, the truth is that the politicization of this cultural expression has led authorities to include flamenco in the Andalusian Statute of Autonomy. The patrimonialization of Flamenco has displayed its appropriation by government structures, and its usage for political and ideological purposes, trying to get the support of those who rule this art. The institutionalization of flamenco by public institutions has meant a decline in the independence with which this art was born and grew. An art of the people and for the people.
