The Municipal Program “Huertas Urbanas”, designed and executed by the Municipality of Rio Grande, aims to improve the conditions for the development, strengthening and integration of the local horticultural activity in pursuit of the city's food sovereignty. With more than three years of operation in the territory, it has shown very good qualitative and quantitative results, strengthening not only the capacities of the horticultural producers object of the public policy, but the institutional capacities through the articulation of actions within the different municipal areas. The interaction with productive actors and the dissemination of the results of each productive season contributed to facilitate the transfer to the local productive and academic sector.
