The Argentina-Chile relationship in democracy. Orderly interdependence and cooperative action between subnational actors

Author/s: Miryam Colacrai

The search for "normality" in Argentine-Chilean relations since the 1990s has been sustained from politics, both to the centrality of power and the strong accompaniment carried out by non-central governments (provinces-regions) combining principles and pragmatism, favoring concertation. From the experience recorded in the Argentine-Chilean bilateral relationship built “in democracy” and in a context of “normal” relations, there is evidence to sustain that paradiplomacy and contacts at the transgovernmental level have decidedly complemented, accompanied, and strengthened the other policies bilateral agreements that represent the traditional way of doing Foreign Policy.
